Yesterday Jake and I came home after watching the sunset. He walked past the back of the futon as I flipped the light on. Jake was out of the room by the time I noticed the huge cane spider standing on the living room floor. I kind of spazed a little but calmed down long enough to actually look at it. I grabbed the camera and snapped a couple pics of it. Jake came back in to the living room to see why I was freaking out. We stood there for a while trying to figure out how we were going to kill it since they run quite fast it is very hard to smash it. So Jake grabbed the laundry basket and climbed onto the futon. He was going to throw the basket at it but decided to try to get some close up pics of it first. He snapped a couple and as he was going to snap a third it took off running right toward the futon. That is when I leaped onto the futon as quick as my little legs would go. We quickly both jumped off the futon onto the hardwood in the kitchen. Jake grabbed the flashlight and looked under the futon to try to track it down. He wasn't able to see it so I came down to look too. I sort of freaked out again when we spotted a leg wrap around the wood slats of the futon. It proceeded to run around and hid under the arm of the futon. Jake pulled the futon over so we could get to the right side of it where it was hiding. I kept the flashlight on it so we would know where it was at all times. All we could find that might kill it was insect repellent so we figured we might as well give it a try. So Jake snuck over to where it was and sprayed. The spider then jumped up in the air and onto the ground and kept jumping as Jake continued to spray it. It seemed that the insect repellent didn’t kill it just pissed it off very bad. It was jumping all over the place. It managed to find its way to under the refrigerator and climbed up the wall in the corner. We had the broom right there and since the repellent seemed to daze it quite a bit Jake grabbed to broom and smacked it. Although our place was completely torn up and insect repellent covering many areas, I am glad to say that our apartment now has one cane spider less then it did the day before yesterday.

I wasn't going to throw the basket at the spider! I was going to smash the basket down on the spider to squish and kill it!
Wow. Nicely done my other-island friends. I keep finding giant cockroaches in the bathtub.
